Inequity in the workforce are important to address as it is a big problem in today's society. LeadHERship sheds the light on these gaps and what actions we should take in order to resolve this.
The goal of LeadHERship is to educate others about the leadership gap and why it exists. The organization moderates productive discussions about gender bias including how to recognize and combat it. They also inform females about societal expectations and norms such as speech patterns, as well as how they pose as barriers. Through this, they hope to help girls learn about their own strengths as leaders and empower other girls to lead.
Neha is 17-years-old and is from Nashville, Tennessee. She is the founder and CEO of LeadHERship.
"The leadership gap in this country and throughout the world is extremely prevalent," Neha said. Neha felt she needed to encourage women leadership in the United States. She first identified a few root causes such as implicit and explicit gender bias, a lack of historical precedent, and a lack of current representation. After Neha noticed these problems, she created the LeadHERship organization and held her first conference in October of 2019. About a year after the launch, Neha was able to gain enough preparation and feedback to expand her mission by building up an online presence to reach a larger audience. Neha was awarded the Girl Scout Gold Award for her initial conference, and even had LeadHERship recognized by Girl Scouts USA.
LeadHERship invites other dedicated females to create their own events within the organization. Neha would help help guide them in creating and organizing these events such as conferences. "It makes me incredibly proud and inspired to witness their successes," Neha said.
The organization has previously used large in-person conferences and discussions, but due to COVID-19, they have made every event to be virtual until it is safe to meet in large groups again. LeadHERship uses Zoom to host these meetings and conferences.
Neha is currently working on different collaborations with other organizations to further her mission. She plans on continuing to expand and help more females make their events. She is halfway in meeting her goal in having at least 50 LeadHERship events and 1,000 followers on Instagram. LeadHERship has grown tremendously in recent months, and hopes to have members establish LeadHERship chapters at their institutions.
